USCIS confirmed earlier today in a news release that it has reached the congressionally mandated cap for H-1B visas for FY 2016. This means that since April 1, 2015, USCIS has received 65,000 or more H-1B petitions, as well as 20,000 or more H-1B petitions from foreign professionals with graduate degrees from U.S. universities.
This also means that USCIS will now conduct a lottery to determine which petitions will be selected for processing. The date of the lottery has not yet been announced due to the volume of petitions received by USCIS. The total number of petitions has also not yet been announced, presumably for the same reason.
